Fire Extinguishers

Overview

Our fire extinguishers are by Kidde and are for small fires that have just started—when it’s safe to act, and you have a clear path to exit. Kidde recommends evacuating everyone first and notifying the fire department before using an extinguisher.

When to Use an Extinguisher

Use the extinguisher only if all of the following are true:

  • The fire is small and contained (for example: a small pan or small surface fire).

  • Everyone is already moving to safety (kids and pets first).

  • You have called 911 (or someone else has).

  • You can stand with your back to an exit so you can leave fast if needed.

If the fire is growing, there’s heavy smoke, or you feel unsure—leave immediately and call 911.

How to Use It (P.A.S.S.)

Kidde’s operating method is the P.A.S.S. technique:

P — Pull the pin.
A — Aim low at the base of the fire.
S — Squeeze the handle slowly and evenly.
S — Sweep side to side at the base until the fire is out.

Note: When the extinguisher first hits the fire, it may briefly flare up—that's normal.

Fire Blanket (Grilling Station Cabinet)

A fire blanket is a fast, clean way to smother a small fire by cutting off oxygen—especially helpful for certain kitchen flare-ups where spraying chemicals can be messy. Kidde sells fire blankets specifically intended for fat-pan kitchen fires.

How to use:

  • Hold the blanket as a shield in front of you.

  • Carefully cover the flames completely to smother them.

  • Leave it in place until everything cools down. (If the situation escalates, evacuate and call 911.)
